Skånska Maffian

Thursday 13 August18:00-19:00

Skånska Maffian was formed in 2008 by Miko Walldén and released their debut record in 2010. They mix styles and offer up quirky elements like opera singers, a children's choir, and Miko's 90-year-old mother. Instrumentally, they spice things up with unexpected touches such as accordion, violin, trumpet, banjo, and more. The band's output has been highly innovative from a jazzy version of Kal P. Dal's “JONNIE” to the party anthem “EN ÖL ÄNDÅ,” to a reggae version of Glenmark's “MARE MARE,” and the crowd favourite “JADÅ!” Skånska Maffian has been first with a lot of things. They were the first in the world to pay tribute to Glenmark's songbook and to create Swedish-dialect versions of Peps's timeless “OH BOY.” Miko's composition “PÅ MIN BALKONG” represented P4 Malmöhus in the national final of Svensktoppen Nästa. They've paid tribute to places like Möllevångstorget, Malmö-Copenhagen, and Landskrona-Ven. They have also made a Skåne-dialect tribute to AC/DC and breathed new life into Dan Tillberg's version of the Rolling Stones' “Get Off My Cloud.” Their tribute to Harley Davidson has been reworked in many different genre versions. After Östen Warnebring's passing, “DET VAR LÄNGE SEN JAG PLOCKA NÅGRA BLOMMOR” was given a new arrangement with echoes of both Wilmer and Peps. In collaboration with a prison facility, they created the heavy, brooding “LÅNGSAMT.” They have also contributed to Skåne sports culture with their own crowd-pleasing anthem. Skånska Maffian often picks up both well-known and obscure songs in standard Swedish and gives them a whole new Skåne-dialect makeover. They are masters at digging under every stone, and no one knows what is next. Not even them…

The doors to Palladium open at 11 am every festival day. Arrive in good time, settle in, and enjoy something from the bar. Expect an atmospheric start with lovely music.
