The Main Hall is exceptionally versatile: approximately 550 seated guests with various seating arrangements, up to 850 standing, or roughly 850 in combination (standing plus balcony), now featuring an elevated stage. The acoustics are world-class and have been praised by international artists, and our Steinway D grand piano truly comes into its own here.
Crystal Chandeliers and Silk Wallcoverings with a Century of History
Palladium Malmö was inaugurated on February 26, 1920, by glass and porcelain director Gustaf Löfberg. With its 1,044 seats, it assumed the role of Malmö's premier cinema.
The Hall primarily functioned as a cinema until 1996, though it was designed from the outset with a stage capable of hosting theater, concerts, variety shows, and other live performances. In the early years, concerts featuring German symphony orchestras were held regularly. Subsequently, luminaries such as Laurel and Hardy, Jussi Björling, and Alice Babs graced Palladium's stage.
It was also here that an unknown Carola Häggkvist achieved her breakthrough with "Främling" when SVT broadcast the Melodifestivalen from Palladium in 1983. Carola later returned to celebrate her 25th anniversary as an artist at this very venue.
The final film screening of the cinema era was Bille August's "Jerusalem" in 1996.

Guided Tour of Palladium
Join us for a tour of Palladium! Learn about the venue's fascinating history dating back to 1920, when glass and porcelain director Löfberg opened the doors to his Cinema and Concert Hall. It was here, for instance, that Carola achieved her breakthrough with "Främling" at the 1983 Melodifestivalen, though Jussi Björling, Alice Babs, and Laurel and Hardy have also graced the stage. Much of the interior remains intact, including the impressive crystal chandeliers and ceiling frescoes.
Palladium was re-inaugurated in 2004 as a venue for music and dance and is now operated by Next Events in close collaboration with Dansstationen.
Palladium Malmö is a venue for music and dance that was carefully restored and re-opened in 2004. Originally inaugurated in 1920 as a cinema, it has largely retained its original interior. The impressive crystal chandeliers, ceiling paintings, and the history embedded in its walls give Palladium its distinctive character. The stage is regarded as one of the finest in Northern Europe for chamber music and dance, featuring a sprung dance floor, free-hanging technical rigging, and acoustics that have been preserved to the delight of both artists and audiences.
