Aswad - British Reggae Legends at Palladium Age limit: 18+ Duration: 90 minutes The Salon: 8:40 PM | On stage: 9:00 PM Bar & Bistro: Open from 8:00 PM After five decades on the music scene and an impressive 18 albums to their name, Aswad remain one of the UK’s most beloved and influential reggae bands. Formed in West London in 1974, the band quickly became one of the first British groups to establish reggae as a major force in Europe. Over the years, Aswad have performed and worked with some of the biggest names in reggae, including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Maxi Priest and Sly & Robbie. Their breakthrough came with “Back to Africa”, and from there, Aswad went on to deliver a long string of classics. In 1988, their version of “Don’t Turn Around” reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and became an international hit. Songs such as “Shine”, “Give a Little Love”, “Next to You” and “On & On” have also become synonymous with the band’s distinctive sound. Throughout their career, Aswad have blended roots reggae with dancehall, dub, funk and hip-hop, performing on some of the world’s biggest stages and at major festivals. Their album Rise & Shine was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, and the band have also received the prestigious MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Black Music. Following the passing of vocalist and founding member Drummie Zeb, his son Sulaiman Gaye-Clarke, who had been part of Aswad for more than 20 years, stepped into the role of lead vocalist, carrying the band’s legacy forward. Aswad continue to fly the flag for British reggae - and now they’re coming to Palladium for a night of timeless reggae, legendary songs and five decades of musical history.
